The phone works on the pavement, but the call breaks up in the room you intend to use as an office. That difference is worth discovering before moving day, particularly if work, family contact or everyday services depend on your mobile connection.
Ask permission to make a short test during the viewing. Use the phone and mobile provider you actually expect to use. Another person’s signal bars may describe a different network, device or connection.
Try the ordinary tasks in the ordinary rooms
Make a brief call in the proposed work area, living space and any lower-ground room you expect to use regularly. Check whether you can hear clearly in both directions. If appropriate, load a small page or send a simple message using mobile data.
Notice whether the device is connected to the seller’s Wi-Fi. A successful Wi-Fi call does not demonstrate the same thing as a call carried by the mobile network. Ask which connection was used rather than accepting one result as proof of every service.
Write a small record: room, approximate time, network and task. Avoid putting private numbers or account details into shared viewing notes. A note saying “call dropped twice in the back room” is more useful than a broad label such as “bad internet”.
Keep the limitations visible
A short visit cannot establish reliability at every hour. Building materials, location within the property and network conditions can affect the result. Coverage information from a provider is another useful input, but it does not replace checking your intended rooms.
If a connection is essential, investigate the available fixed broadband and any provider-supported calling options before committing. Confirm actual availability for the address and any installation requirements. Do not assume that a neighbour’s package can automatically be ordered for this property.
Add connectivity to the same shortlist as storage, noise and transport. It may not decide the purchase by itself, but it can reveal an everyday compromise that attractive listing photographs never show.
